I’m going back to University!
I never thought I’d get the opportunity to follow my passion and go to school for writing at thirty. I assumed I would wait until I retired, but here I am enrolled in The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University.
I’m going to be working under author Eileen Cook as I make my way through an eight module ten-month program while working with my mentor’s other students in a critique group. The Writer’s Studio is modelled after an MFA style program. Being accepted into this program has given me the encouragement I need to continue on this path. The structure of learning and creating with others feels like a step in the right direction at this point in my creative journey.
Turning thirty last month was a bigger deal for me than I anticipated, but now that I’m a month in I see it in a new light. I’ve started a new job, I’m going back to school and I’m years ahead of where I thought I’d be in the development of my writing career. Thirty feels like a new beginning.
